Podcast listening tip number 3: Say hello

This is a truism for me and every other podcaster I’ve ever met: we like nothing better than hearing from our listeners.
It’s always a thrill when someone new drops us a line by e-mail, via a comment on our podcast blog, or by phoning in an audio comment. Or, such as happened with me this week, finding out about a listener — thanks, David Levy! — by way of a telephone comment on another podcast.
But in addition to putting a smile on a podcaster’s face, saying hello or leaving a (text or audio) comment has other benefits, including several for you:
- It makes you an active part of the that podcast’s listening community, and gives you a greater connection to the show.
- The audience starts to listen to you, too.
- If you have your own blog or podcast, a comment is an excellent way of promoting your content, your show, your brand. It could even land you some new business — hey, it’s happened to me.
- If your comment is engaging, others in the audience will comment on your comment, and the podcaster will have rich new content thread to include in his/her next show.
- If you’re offering constructive criticism, and it’s valid, the podcaster can put your suggestion(s) into practice, resulting in a better listening experience for everyone.
So, if you’ve been following your favorite podcasts for several weeks or months now and haven’t yet left a comment, there’s no better time to do so than today.
If one of those podcasts is New Comm Road, let me point you in the right direction:
- Leave a text or audio comment on the podcast blog.
- Send me an e-mail: bryan — AT — newcommroad — DOT — com. For bonus points, attach an mp3 file. A free service such as Waxmail makes doing that drop-dead easy.
- Call in an audio comment: (206) 202-3996.
