The Southern Hemispherial debut of PodCamp is coming to Australia later this year — in a city to be determined by you.

Jared Madden and Adam Purcell have just launched a PodCamp Australia website and have put out a “stake your interest” call to the Australian new-media community to select the city to host PodCamp.

The candidates?

  • Sydney
  • Melbourne
  • Brisbane
  • Perth
  • Adelaide

I’ve bolded Brisbane above, because I’m extra partial to the city and, quite frankly, hoping to influence your vote. I spent two years in Brisbane from mid-2001 to mid-2003 as a postgrad student, and it is there that I met my wife, married, spent many a night sharing excellent beer with good friends, and became a cricket fan.

Brisbane is often hailed as “Australia’s most livable city,” and I’m certainly not going to dispute that claim. It has year-round beautiful weather (a typical winter’s day, for example, is sunny and and 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit (20-22 Celsius)), several good universities, good public transport, not-so-bad traffic, affordable rent, a peaceful river to walk along, and delightful restaurants; it’s also an easy drive either an hour south or north to the popular Gold Coast and beautiful Sunshine Coast, respectively.

Check out OurBrisbane.com to see more for yourself. And when you’re done, go and vote for Brisbane as the host city for the first-ever PodCamp Australia. I just did.
