Great article! The microblogging movement is a strange one. I was never able to get into the social sites like twitter. Maybe I was not affiliated with the right groups, I don't know. Maybe I am the strange one....

I would disagree. While microblogging might have a lower threshold for someone getting involved, I dont think that is where people will start their slow and sickening abyss like descent into social media. I have been doing a little personal research by asking some of my non tech friends what social media sites they know about and twitter and the like were no where to be found in their heads. Sites like Digg, Delicious, docstoc etc were far more known then microblogging solutions. Those are just made for mass market consumption, and thus are most peoples first point of contact into SM.

Bryan,

Fantastic post (and not just because Jim is my friend and colleague.) Very clever and you make an excellent point of Twitter being a much less intimidating way to get involved in social media (and to build your network.) I'd also argue that it's more valuable than FB because there is more dialog and less noise.

Best,
Aaron (@astrout)
